Candidate Questionnaire:1. What inspired you to seek this position?I was born and raised in Pasadena; it’s my home. I have enjoyed serving over the last 8 years as the Community Relations Director for the City of Pasadena. I feel like I have a whole lot more to give to my city.2. What qualifications, experience, and leadership skills prepare you for this role, including crisis response, crime prevention, financial literacy, and public communication? As the Community Relations Director and working out of the mayor’s office for the last 8 years, being in the trenches with every kind of problem or disaster that could come up, I feel like I’m fully prepared and the most experienced person in this city to take on this challenge. Throughout this journey, I have worked very closely with Police, Fire and EMS along with OEM as well as all the City Directors and I know that I am fully qualified for this position.3. What are your top priorities for the first 100 days if elected, and which city policies or initiatives will you continue or change? To sit down with all Directors and City Officials and re-evaluate our path forward, making sure that they are all fully committed to moving this city forward in a positive direction. Revaluating all city policies and initiatives to see what adjustments we can make to enhance the progress of our city.4. How do you plan to embrace the city of Pasadena, including uniting City Council, foster collaboration, and ensure transparency in your leadership while effectively representing all Pasadena constituents? As Communications Director, I have obviously always believed in communication first and foremost. Being forthright and honest is a must. Using a commonsense approach and making sure that everyone is accountable for the position that they hold. I believe in one Pasadena for all citizens.5. What actions will you take to increase the number of city projects awarded to small and local businesses?I plan to sit down with the Pasadena Economic Development Corporation and in conjunction with the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce to enhance Pasadena Loves Local as well as trying to create other programs to give small businesses a better opportunity to succeed.6. What is your vision for Pasadena’s economic development, including plans for the convention center, city-owned land, and infrastructure improvements to encourage business investment?I believed in the convention center project since day one. I believe it’s our only opportunity to have a true economic driver in the City of Pasadena. A Driver that will not only bring new tax dollars to the City of Pasadena but will also create hundreds of new jobs. Over the last 8 years, I have been committed to improving the city’s infrastructure and continuing that in and of itself will encourage new business investment.7. Business-friendly policies rank as the number one priority for chamber members. What are your plans to streamline the permitting process and improve ordinances to attract and support new businesses while also improving flexibility for development in Pasadena?Streamlining the city’s permitting process is moving full steam ahead with the hiring of a new City Controller who is fully onboard with implementing the new software program. The city purchased a new software program 5.5 years ago, and the last 2 City Controller’s refused to implement it. The City Controller is the only person who does not work for the mayor. The City Controller works for the City Council. As you can see, being from the mayor’s office, our hands were somewhat tied. I am very encouraged that before the end of this calendar year, the new software program will be up and running.8. What are your plans for improving and maintaining Pasadena’s infrastructure, including roads, sewage, drainage, water supply, high speed internet, and the power grid?We have a 5-year capital improvement plan that we will continue to use as our guideline as we continue to reevaluate the streets in the worst need of repair. We have well documented areas of flooding that will remain at the top of the list. We are currently and will continue to work on our wastewater sewage plants. We currently own 20% of the Southeast Water Purification Plant and there are plans for new growth and development within this plant so our water supply will greatly increase. High speed internet has just been installed at the Pasadena Convention Center and will soon be up and running at the Pasadena Golf Course. We have a great working relationship with Centerpoint and will continue to foster that relationship to ensure that Pasadena’s power grid has enough power to always meet the needs of our residents.9. How will you leverage modern technology to streamline city operations, improve efficiency, and prioritize long-term growth? What specific innovations or technology solutions will you implement to enhance public services, economic development, and infrastructure management in Pasadena? As we all know, technology is changing every day. It appears that the future, at this point, is leaning towards Artificial Intelligence. I believe staying well versed with changing technology will keep us at the forefront and give us the best opportunity to succeed.10. Business and citizens alike require a secure city in which to work and live. What is your experience and plan for public safety for Pasadena?I am a firm believer that if you don’t have a safe city, you don’t have a city. I am committed to our Pasadena Police Department and our Pasadena Volunteer Fire Department and will do everything possible to make sure they continue to have the best equipment and facilities to do their jobs and remain safe.11. How can the city ensure adequate healthcare infrastructure, including mental health care, hospitals, doctors, and accountability in healthcare services?Being in the healthcare industry for over 30 years, I know how important healthcare is to the city. The City of Pasadena has great partnerships with HCA Southeast, Patients Hospital St Luke’s, Kelsey Seybold and Acadian Ambulance Service to help ensure that adequate care at the top facilities is available to all citizens. It’s my understanding that Harris County is working to bring healthcare facilities to Pasadena that will include mental healthcare. I will be fully committed to being a partner and doing whatever is needed to help Harris County be successful in our great city.12. Access to talent and workforce is the number one challenge facing Pasadena businesses. What role should the government play in workforce development, including investment in training programs and partnerships with colleges and the ISDs?At the City of Pasadena, we have great partnerships with PISD and San Jacinto College helping to ensure that our students have great educations that will allow them to obtain good paying jobs and hopefully stay right here in Pasadena. Having superior educational institutions will continue to bring people to Pasadena. In turn, giving us more access to talent in our workforce. Working with our local unions who provide internships has been a great tool over the last 8 years to help many of our young citizens to find new careers that will help them provide for their families. Creating internships through the City of Pasadena where it’s viable would be a good way to enhance workforce development.
