  • Pasadena Chamber of Commerce 2024 Policy Guide

Advocacy is a core pillar of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber aims to develop well informed, empowered advocates that contribute to the growth, prosperity, and sustainability of our city and region. This is achieved by carefully identifying, analyzing, and influencing issues at a local, state, and federal level.

Earlier this year, the Pasadena Chamber’s Board of Directors and Government Relations Committee developed a list of policy items to direct the Chamber’s advocacy efforts. The policy items were sent to Chamber members to recommend priority rankings, which the Board of Directors and Government Relations Committee used to establish our priorities.

The key policy areas identified are outlined in priority order below:

    - Local Planning and Permitting - Advocate for change in local ordinances that hinder development and place unnecessary burdens on business owners. Develop clear and accessible permitting processes, including the creation of a digital permitting system, to better inform businesses and bring a positive perception of doing business in Pasadena.

    - Education and Workforce Development - Prioritize strengthening education at all levels, with a focus on STEM fields, to develop a skilled workforce ready to meet current and future demands. Support training and apprenticeship programs to fill the skills gap in key industries.

    - Small Business Support - Advocate for the creation and continuation of incentives and grants that encourage economic development and the growth of small businesses to foster an environment of innovation and local economic growth. Programs like Pasadena Loves Local, a partnership between the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, City of Pasadena, and Pasadena Economic Development Corporation, must continue to be promoted and utilized through good faith efforts.

    - Strategic Appointments - Highlight the importance of strategic appointments to local and state committees, boards, and commissions to ensure that they reflect the diverse interests and expertise represented in the greater Pasadena area.

    - Infrastructure - Advocate for comprehensive infrastructure improvements, emphasizing sustainable water resources, reliable energy sources, and advanced telecommunications networks to support our growing population and business needs.

In addition to the priorities detailed above, the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce will monitor and engage on the following policy initiatives:

    - Managing Tax Burdens on Business Growth

    - Enhancing Public Safety and Emergency Response

    - Transportation

    - Insurance Reform

    - Digital Accessibility and Broadband Expansion - Coastal Barrier Protection
