  • Candidate Questionnaire:

    1. What inspired you to run for the Pasadena independent School District Board of Trustees or the San Jacinto Board of Trustees?
My inspiration comes from many sources. I often volunteer at my children's school. I have made many relationships and friendships with teachers and staff. I attend District Committee Meetings that bring community, PISD, and parents together. Yet, I felt in my heart that I am called to do even more. My children are my legacy. I have invested so much of myself in them and want to see them and their peers succeed. They are our future. Our Students, Teachers and Staff are amazing. I am doing this for them.

    2. What qualifications, experience, and leadership skills prepare you for this role, including crisis response, crime prevention, financial literacy, and public communication?
For the Past 12 years, I have worked off and on in my church's Sunday School Department. From there, I have been involved in our Media Team, Follow-up Team, and Prayer Team. My Pastor relies on me for many roles and I am blessed to be able to do so.

I am the financial planner of my family and keep a detailed budget/spending spreadsheet to ensure my family's needs are met. I look forward to reviewing Our District's Funding and Budget.

I do not have official training yet, but life experience and dedication to our Families and Employees will drive me to ensure our District taken care of. If elected, I will be required to take Continued Education Courses and trainings that will even better equip me in my role.

    3. What do you see as the biggest challenges facing our school district / college?  How would you address them?
Our teachers need our support. They need to be protected. We must have their backs, as leaders and as parents. We should work as a team to see our students succeed. They should not be expected to do this alone. We need more support from parents.

Our students need to be accountable. They should learn to take responsibility for their own grades, actions and relationships with others. And then encouraged to improve on whatever their situation may be. They can't be blaming others for low grades, or consequences. We need to have mentally healthy young adults graduating from high school with the mentality that they are accountable for their actions and they can make a difference in their community.

I am very curious as to the funding that comes in to our District vs what Is spent and on what. I look forward to learning more about that and seeing how we can improve, especially in regards to supplies fro our classrooms so that our teachers are not coming out of pocket for expenses.

    4. What do you see as the biggest strengths and successes of our school district/college?
Communication is great in regards to dates of events, days of no school, responses to happenings such as the recent shootings.

Our Special Education programs are fantastic. I enjoy seeing our students getting involved and treated with dignity.

    5. What is your vision for the school district/college in the next three to five years?
I want Budget Transparency. I want to be able to celebrate smart spending.

No more school shootings! Let's figure out how we can prevent this even off campus. Teach our students self regulation, accountability, and to make great plans for their futures that outweigh and grudge or issue they have in the small moment of time that is now.

Let's increase our ratings. I want to drive by schools and see exemplary and recognized for years more recent than 2010!

I want our High School Students to have dreams. More than that: goals. Something to look forward to have a plan to be successful. For greater education, careers, families. They have so much potential. I want them to know their worth.

I hope to see teen pregnancy rates drop tremendously, and not covered up by terminations. I want them to be proud of their abstinence.

    6. What are your top priorities for the first 6 months, and what policies or initiatives will you continue or change?
If elected, I hope to set up tours of each campus so that I can meet the Admin there, seek out each School's Strengths and promote them. To learn about how we can improve each campus and make plans to reach independent needs as each campus is different.

I want to have relationships with each school. That is a great priority of mine. I want them to know they are heard and cared for.

    7. Access to talent and workforce is the number one challenge facing our businesses and industries.  What would you do to ensure that employers' needs are met, and students are graduating with the skills necessary to succeed?
Each student should take an aptitude test to find their possible prospects. To be enrolled in classes/electives that keep them interested and encouraged to keep their grades up. They need to earn their grade. Let's refrain from pumping unskilled/uneducated community members into the workforce. But of course, it comes down to their own accountability.  If possible have incentives for students to stay local and be employed/ volunteer with local small businesses.

    8. Supporting local businesses is a chamber priority.  What would you do to support local businesses as a Board Trustee?
When a need arises for a purchase or service, lets shop locally first. Community is important. It keeps us human, brings a sense of camaraderie. We can't lose that. We need to work together for our city's success.

    9. Collaboration among the chamber, city, school district, and college has been pivotal in achieving success both in educational programs and during times of natural disaster when coordinated efforts are necessary for recovery.  What suggestions or ideas do you have for continued collaboration and enhanced partnerships?
I appreciate being able to attend the State of the City last month. Seeing the community leaders come together celebrate Pasadena. It fed my heart. If we can have something similar is at a lower cost, maybe even without a meal and outside, which can incorporate more of our community, I think that would be great. So many  people choose not to get involved because they are intimidated or feel uninterested. If we can have a community picnic with games for the kids, introduce our leaders to the community in a fun relatable yet professional manor, maybe more will get involved.
