Pasadena City Council District G Candidate:

 

Through my experiences in community engagement and grassroots initiatives, I have seen firsthand the power of collaboration and the importance of listening to the voices of the community. I am motivated by the opportunity to advocate for policies that prioritize public safety, infrastructure improvements, economic development, and expansion of our parks and recreation department. 

Additionally, I want to empower residents to be active participants in the decision-making process. I am committed to fostering open communication between our local government and the community.  Ultimately, my goal is to create a vibrant Pasadena where families can thrive, and individuals feel supported and heard.

My qualifications and experience have prepared me for this role. As an educator, I have developed strong communication skills that enable me to connect with diverse groups, ensuring residents' concerns and needs are heard and addressed. My involvement in community initiatives has given me firsthand knowledge of crisis response and crime prevention strategies. 
 My education in business and background in education provide me with a solid understanding of financial literacy, which is essential for managing budgets and resources effectively. I have coordinated programs that require financial oversight, ensuring funds are used wisely for community benefit.  My leadership skills are grounded in servant leadership, which emphasizes collaboration and responsiveness to others' needs. I actively participate in community engagement efforts to foster positive relationships and encourage civic involvement.  These experiences have equipped me to lead effectively, making informed decisions that prioritize the safety and well-being of our residents while promoting a vibrant and thriving community in Pasadena. I was born and raised in Pasadena and have chosen to live, work, and raise my family here in our wonderful city.

 

In my first 100 days, my top priorities will include enhancing public safety by collaborating with law enforcement to strengthen community policing initiatives, ensuring residents feel safe and engaged. I will prioritize community engagement by gathering input from residents to make sure their voices are heard in decision-making.  I will assess the current state of our streets and public facilities to identify urgent repair needs, laying the groundwork for future infrastructure projects. Additionally, I will advocate for the expansion of recreation programs and facilities, focusing on initiatives that engage youth and promote health and wellness.Throughout this process, I will evaluate existing city policies, continuing successful initiatives while proposing changes to those that may not effectively meet our residents' current needs. My goal is to create a responsive and proactive government that prioritizes the well-being of all Pasadena residents.

 

I plan to embrace the city of Pasadena by fostering collaboration among City Council members and creating a united front to address community needs. I will prioritize open communication, encouraging regular dialogue between council members and residents to ensure that everyone feels heard and valued. By promoting teamwork and shared goals, we can work together more effectively for the benefit of our constituents.  To ensure transparency in my leadership, I will advocate for clear communication regarding city policies and decisions, making information readily accessible to the public. I will also support initiatives that allow residents to provide input on key issues.  I will continue to build relationships with community organizations, local businesses, and residents to create a network of support that reflects the diverse perspectives of Pasadena. By actively engaging with all constituents, I will strive to represent their interests fairly and equitably. My goal is to create an inclusive environment where collaboration and transparency lead to positive outcomes for the entire community, making Pasadena a better place for everyone.

 

I will advocate to make the process more accessible for our small and local businesses. We can partner with local organizations, including the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, to provide training, mentorship, and support to our business leaders. By sharing success stories of local businesses, we will inspire others to participate. By tracking our progress and keeping the community informed, we will ensure effective support for small and local businesses, helping them thrive and contribute to our local economy.

 

My vision for Pasadena’s economic development involves attracting strong businesses to invest in the city, which will boost our local economy by bringing in more events and visitors. This will generate revenue and provide support to our existing local businesses.  Infrastructure improvements are crucial for promoting business investment. I will advocate for upgrades to our roadways and sidewalks to ensure better access for both businesses and customers. By fostering collaboration between the city, businesses, and community organizations, we can develop a thriving economic ecosystem that attracts new investments while supporting our existing local businesses.

 

In conversations with business owners and prospective entrepreneurs, it’s clear that the permitting process is a significant hurdle for establishing a business in Pasadena. To address this issue, I will advocate for a streamlining of the permitting process.  By collaborating with city departments, we can create clear guidelines and timelines for permits, ensuring business owners know what to expect and can plan effectively. Implementing a streamlined digital permitting system will facilitate online submissions and tracking, making the process more efficient and accessible.  I will also engage with local business owners to identify specific barriers within the permitting process and propose necessary changes to ordinances that may limit their growth.  Ultimately, my goal is to create a more welcoming environment for businesses in Pasadena, facilitating the establishment of new enterprises and supporting economic growth. Together, we can remove obstacles and foster a thriving business community that benefits all residents. By making these changes, we can enhance Pasadena’s economic value and attract more investments.

 

My plans for improving Pasadena's infrastructure focus on key areas: roads, sewage, drainage, water supply, high-speed internet, and the power grid. First, I will seek increased funding to repair and upgrade our roads for safer travel. To enhance sewage and drainage systems, I will prioritize regular maintenance and upgrades to prevent flooding and ensure effective waste management. We also need to invest in our water supply infrastructure to guarantee we continue to provide clean and reliable access for all residents. Improving high-speed internet access is essential for our community's growth. A thriving Pasadena will attract service providers to expand coverage and promote competitive pricing, ensuring that everyone has access to reliable internet. We can upgrade the power grid by investing in modern technology. By taking a comprehensive approach to infrastructure, we can create a strong foundation for Pasadena’s future, meeting the needs of residents and attracting new businesses.

 

I will leverage modern technology to streamline city operations and improve efficiency in Pasadena. By implementing technological advances, we can enhance public services, economic development, and infrastructure management.  One key innovation is adopting a digital platform for city services, allowing residents to access information, submit requests, and easily pay bills online. This will improve convenience and reduce response times.
I will advocate for the use of data analytics to drive decision-making. By analyzing data on traffic patterns, public safety, and resource allocation, we can make informed choices that prioritize long-term growth.  I will work to expand high-speed internet access throughout the city, ensuring that businesses and residents can benefit from reliable connectivity.
By embracing these technology solutions, we can create a more efficient, responsive, and sustainable city that meets the needs of our community and fosters economic growth.

 

Public safety is crucial for businesses and residents in Pasadena. My plan for improving public safety includes increasing funding for our police department to ensure they have the resources and staffing needed for effective community policing, which will help officers become more visible and approachable. I will promote partnerships between law enforcement and community groups to collaboratively tackle safety issues. Initiatives focused on youth engagement, crime prevention, and mental health support will contribute to a safer environment. Additionally, I will support our volunteer fire department by advocating for resources and additional training, recognizing their vital role in keeping our community safe. I plan to use modern technology to enhance safety and address incidents quickly. I will listen to the concerns of residents and businesses to tailor our safety strategies effectively. By fostering a strong sense of community and implementing proactive safety measures, we can ensure Pasadena remains a secure place for everyone to live and work.

 

To ensure adequate healthcare infrastructure in Pasadena, we need a comprehensive approach that includes mental health care, hospitals, and access to doctors.  Collaborating with healthcare providers and organizations is essential for expanding services, especially in mental health. We can partner with local mental health organizations to create outreach programs that raise awareness and provide support.  I will also focus on attracting and retaining healthcare professionals in Pasadena to ensure residents have access to a variety of medical services.
We can create a strong healthcare infrastructure that meets the needs of all Pasadena residents and promotes overall well-being.

 

The city of Pasadena can play a vital role in workforce development by partnering with our local colleges and independent school districts. As a graduate of Pasadena ISD, a parent of PISD students, and a teacher in PISD, I believe that we can support internships and apprenticeship programs, connecting students with local businesses for hands-on experience. This allows students to gain valuable skills while helping businesses identify potential talent. Finally, promoting awareness of these programs will encourage participation among residents. By taking these steps, we can strengthen Pasadena’s workforce, support local businesses, and contribute to a thriving economy. As a community, we can work together to build a skilled workforce that meets the needs of our community.
