Candidate Questionnaire:1. What inspired you to seek this position?I love this city. It’s my hometown. My family has a long history here. We are a great city with resilience, history, traditions and a drive like none other. We constantly redefine our potential, reaching for new heights with each challenge and each success. It was easy to be inspired to serve Pasadena on City Council and it is why I am seeking re-election.2. What qualifications, experience, and leadership skills prepare you for this role, including crisis response, crime prevention, financial literacy, and public communication? As Councilman, I have worked hard to be accessible to the district, to be “everywhere”. I have an open line to the district, to constituents. We address issues quickly and directly. Pasadena has shared in the emergencies that have affected our region such as Hurricane Beryl. When we have a crisis, we work together to meet needs and get us on a path to recovery as rapidly and completely as possible. I support our law enforcement and have supported funds necessary to ensure our law enforcement has what they need to protect our residents. I am honored to have the endorsement of the Pasadena Police Officers’ Union in my re-election campaign.3. What are your top priorities for the first 100 days if elected, and which city policies or initiatives will you continue or change?Public safety will always be my top priority. We cannot run a successful city if do not have a safe city. I will always make public safety my number one issue. Infrastructure issues remain a focus for me for my district and our city. We have to maintain, repair, build and be preventative in addressing our infrastructure needs in Pasadena. We have to take a good look at our city budget and remove any suggestion of waste, fraud and abuse of our taxpayers. This is an ongoing issue that has my attention and one I will continue to pursue in my second term.4. How do you plan to embrace the city of Pasadena, including uniting City Council, foster collaboration, and ensure transparency in your leadership while effectively representing all Pasadena constituents?I do my level best to be as accessible and present as possible as District F Councilman. I listen. I engage. I collaborate. I work hard to deliver results for my constituents. Working hard for District F means working efficiently for the betterment of all of Pasadena.5. What actions will you take to increase the number of city projects awarded to small and local businesses?I am a pro-business Councilman, being a 22-year business owner myself. When there is an opportunity to engage in public-private partnerships, I encourage them.6. What is your vision for Pasadena’s economic development, including plans for the convention center, city-owned land, and infrastructure improvements to encourage business investment? It is a basic tenet that when we have a thriving economic environment, our city succeeds. We need continued fair and transparent processes for our private businesses to pursue opportunities for any city-owned property or parcel. Regarding infrastructure improvements, as previously mentioned, this is a sharp focus of mine. We must continue to be pro-active in effectively maintaining what we have in place and exploring ways we can create infrastructure which anticipates Pasadena’s growth.7. Business-friendly policies rank as the number one priority for chamber members. What are your plans to streamline the permitting process and improve ordinances to attract and support new businesses while also improving flexibility for development in Pasadena? When we have a thriving business environment, the residents of Pasadena win. We should always be implementing ways to cut regulation that is prohibitive to giving business the opportunity to establish and flourish within Pasadena. Being a pro-business Councilman, I have supported efforts to create a healthy business climate. We want increased development in Pasadena and we want it to be fair to the consumer, the taxpayer and the city.8. What are your plans for improving and maintaining Pasadena’s infrastructure, including roads, sewage, drainage, water supply, high speed internet, and the power grid?As has been a theme throughout my responses to infrastructure questions in this questionnaire, I want to wisely maintain the infrastructure we have in place and be pro-active in creating infrastructure that prepares for Pasadena’s future. Our city needs mobility and accessibility for its roads, sewage/drainage, water supply and reliability in its internet and power sources. I work to support funding and improvements to the departments and programs that provide these critical services.9. How will you leverage modern technology to streamline city operations, improve efficiency, and prioritize long-term growth? What specific innovations or technology solutions will you implement to enhance public services, economic development, and infrastructure management in Pasadena? The future is in technology. We all see that. It’s a worthy question to ask of our department heads as to how they can utilize technology to provide more efficient services and outcomes. At a city level, in particular, we look to ensure we keep our systems modern and current without experimenting on the taxpayer dime. We are regularly open to ideas to stay with the growth in the tech industry and avoid challenges by ensuring proper implementation and oversight.10. Business and citizens alike require a secure city in which to work and live. What is your experience and plan for public safety for Pasadena? As I mentioned, public safety is my top priority and we cannot have a successful city if we do not have a safe city. I have been a strong supporter of law enforcement on City Council. Its why I have earned the endorsement of Pasadena Police Officers’ Union in my re-election campaign. There is an open line of communication with our law enforcement leaders who are not shy about expressing what they need to keep Pasadena residents and businesses safe. Pasadena police have a long history of a strong partnership with our Constables to ensure we are leveraging all resources available for our residents and businesses to keep them safe.11. How can the city ensure adequate healthcare infrastructure, including mental health care, hospitals, doctors, and accountability in healthcare services? The city should always be keeping pace with the ever-changing, ever-evolving healthcare industry. Pasadena residents deserve the very best we can provide locally within our capacity and they deserve to benefit from this region we live in that is home to world-class medical care. Transparency, fairness, accessibility are all, again, very important as the city looks to provide the best care it can within its jurisdiction.12. Access to talent and workforce is the number one challenge facing Pasadena businesses. What role should the government play in workforce development, including investment in training programs and partnerships with colleges and the ISDs?Pasadena is a workhorse. We are a heartbeat of talent for the workforce in our own city, in Harris County and in Texas. We have extensive programs and centers within our school district and our community college systems which curate the talent they educate to become successful working members of our community. These graduates will lead our city one day. I am open to any conversation with any educational institution looking to partner with the city to develop the next generation of productive members of our community
